The following is an update re the Confiscation Order issued by the Turks and Caicos Islands' Supreme Court, on leading Jamaican politicians and political parties, who allegedly received a total of US $21 million from David Smith.
[David Smith is former CEO of failed investment (ponzi) scheme, Olint].
In our post, "Olint Backlash Hits Jamaican Politicians", we reported that David Smith had given the ruling People's National Party US $2 million and former Jamaican Prime Minister, Percival James (P. J.) Patterson, US $1 million.
The PNP, via its Chairman, Robert Pickersgill, told the Jamaican news media today, that it had received US $1 million from David Smith. The money was used in their General Elections campaign.
However, they are reporting that they had received this money and not Mr. Patterson.
They state that their investigations reveal that Mr. Patterson was truthful when he said that he did not receive money from Olint and that they will be informing the TCI authorities of this.
News reports state that the PNP will also be requesting that the TCI authorities provide more information that will further assist the PNP's investigations into this matter.
